Osama Bin Laden got inspiration from Mahatma Gandhi.

Terror mastermind Osama Bin Laden in a 1993 speech invoked apostle of peace Mahatma Gandhi as he asked his supporters to give away and boycott American goods and seek inspiration from Indian leader's struggle against the Britishers. This can be said and justified according to the audio tapes of the slain Al-Qaida chief.

Laden fled from the city of Kandahar, where he had been based since 1997 after the US invasion of Afghanistan in 2001. Several compounds were vacated, except one opposite the Taliban foreign ministry. Around 1500 cassettes were discovered from there.

The cache passed many hands from an Afghan family to a cassette shop and then to a CNN Cameraman, finally reaching the Afghan Media Project at Williams College in Masachusetts.

They asked Flags Miller -an expert in Arabic language and culture to unravel them.

A decade ago, Miller had written a book called 'The Audacious Ascetic '. The tapes date back to 1960s and are till 2001, featuring more than 200 speakers. Laden bieng one of them.

The first speech in the collection is in which Osama calls on supporters to take action against the US by boycotting its goods.

'Consider the case of Great Britain, an empire so vast that some say the sun never set on it ", says Osama.

'Britain was forced to withdraw from one of its largest colonies when Gandhi the Hindu declared a boycott against their goods, we must do the same with United States ', Laden exclaimed.
