The Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi was ordained the highest civilian award of Saudi Arabia, The Order of Abdullah, by King of Saudi Arabia Salman bin Abdulaziz.

Saudi Arabia on Sunday (3rd April, 2016) conferred its highest civilian honour, the King Abdulaziz Sash (The Order of Abdullah) on Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The Indian PM Modi was conferred the prestigious award by King Salman bin Abdulaziz at the Royal Court where they also held extensive discussions on a range of bilateral, regional and international issues.

"In a special gesture, PM @narendramodi was conferred Saudi Arabia's highest civilian honour, the King Abdulaziz Sash," external affairs ministry spokesman Vikas Swarup tweeted.

The award is named after Abdulaziz Al Saud, the founder of the modern Saudi state.

The other World leaders who have earlier received the same honour include the Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, British Prime Minister David Cameron, US President Barack Obama, Russian President Vladimir Putin and Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi.
