Mr. Surya Deva, an Indian law professor in Hong Kong, has been appointed by the Geneva-based UN Human Rights Council (UNHRC), as an adviser on human rights, transnational corporations and other business enterprises. He has been appointed as the Asia-Pacific representative of the related UN Working Group.
This position was formally known as “Special Procedure Mandate Holder". He will be a member of the four-member Working Group on the issue of human rights and transnational corporations and other business enterprises.
Mr. Deva, working as an associate professor at the School of Law City University of Hong Kong and his research interests lay in Business and Human Rights, Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), India-China Constitutional Law, and Sustainable Development.
Mr. Deva recently wrote a background paper for India's National Framework on Business and Human Rights and in 2014, he was elected a Member of the Executive Committee of the International Association of Constitutional Law.
