The Dubai-based entrepreneur Sunny Varkey, 59, recently launched the $200,000 Varkey Foundation Challenge Fund. The educational fund was launched during the Global Education and Skills Forum 2016 in Dubai. The funds will support education projects around the world.
The Varkey Foundation is a not-for-profit organisation established to improve the standards of education for underprivileged children throughout the world. The Varkey Foundation Challenge Fund also provides grants to partner organisations that offer innovative solutions in support of its mission. This initiative is also part of the Varkey Foundation’s vision of providing every child with good teachers and a quality education.
The first allocations of the fund are to go for projects in the Middle East, Ghana, and Ukraine.
Mr Varkey said The Challenge Fund looks to support early-stage initiatives that will build the capacity of teachers and strengthen the status of the teaching profession.
