The Eloor, Kochi police has arrested a non-resident Indian (NRI), Ishaq Ismail of Mathilakam, Thrissur, who had allegedly availed loans worth several lakhs using the bank accounts of his employees in Qatar last year.
Police nabbed him after the Kerala high court dismissed his petition seeking an anticipatory bail.
According to the Kerala police, the cheating was done by the father-son duo of Ishaq and his father Ismail Chulliparambil Bava by recruiting people from various parts of Kerala promising high-salary jobs in their company Terrahomes Trading & Contracting WLL. The father-son duo had availed loans in the name of some of the employees, and five of them were trapped in Qatar after failing to repay the amount. The cheating came to light when Vaisakh Mohan, a native of Eloor, who escaped from Qatar, filed a complaint with the NRI cell.
The Kerala Police also informed that Bava is currently also serving a jail term in Doha in connection with another cheating case.
