Actress Karisma Kapoor, who has been separated from her estranged husband Sunjay Kapur for over five years now, has filed a case of dowry harassment against her husband and her mother-in-law Rani Surinder Kapur. The actress also claimed to be physical tortured in her complaint in the Khar police station, Mumbai.
“We have registered the case and will conduct an inquiry into the matter based on the allegations. We will question Sunjay and his mother in the coming week,” said an officer from Khar police station. Karisma also filed a complaint of domestic violence on against Kapur in Bandra metropolitan magistrate’s court.
The couple had initially filed for divorce through mutual consent. But later Karisma withdrew her consent from the divorce petition stating that Sunjay had failed to meet the financial commitments. The actress has also demanded Rs 20 lakh per month from Kapur as maintenance for their kids.
Police sources said the allegations against Sunjay and Rani are of the time between 2012 and 2013, when Karisma used to stay with them in Khar.
Sunjay in bitter response filed a fresh petition in the family court claiming that Karisma married him for money. He claimed Karisma was responsible for their troubled marriage as the actor married Kapur on the rebound in 2003, after her break-up with the actor Abhishek Bachchan.
The estranged couple has two children, Samaira and Kiaan, the couple is also fighting for the custody of the children along with the divorce battle.
Karisma’s lawyer Sanjog Parabsaid said, “As a matter of right for my client we have sought three basic things for her in the petition. Protection of children from being taken out of Mumbai till further order, maintenance for kids as he has stopped paying and injunction order from selling the property of Kapur’s father over which he and the children have rights”.
Karisma has also notified court that Sunjay is living with another woman despite being married to the actor and has few photographs to prove the same. The actress has also blamed her estranged husband for neglecting their son's health.
The court has now issued notice to Kapur to reply to her petition. The petition is now scheduled for hearing in March, 2016.
