The next high commissioner designate to India announced by the Australian high commission is Singapore born Indian-origin Harinder Sidhu. She succeeds Patrick Suckling.
Born in Singapore and settled in Australia with her family, originally hails from Punjab in India. Responding to the appointment she said that Australia-India relationship has grown substantially over the past few years and she will dedicate herself to building that relationship further. Speaking on her appointment Ms. Sidhu says, she “looks forward to her new role in India which is one of the most exciting places for a diplomat to be at the moment, as India’s economic prospects are bright and it is becoming a more influential and active international player”.
She speaks little Punjabi and Hindi and also has ecstasy for the Bollywood movies. At a personal level she has always been fascinated by the country of her rich cultural heritage and is keen to learn more about its language, culture and history while she is there.
After her appointment and while taking up the new role her first task would be likely to host the Australian men’s and women’s cricket team in India for the T-20 in March, 2016. “I'm looking forward to seeing both the Australians and Indians in action. I hope to get to Mohali for the match and, with luck, see them both in the final, too. May the best team win", says the new Oz envoy to India.
