The 44-year-old, Indian-origin technician Mr. Cottalango Leon has been chosen for this year's Oscar for scientific and technical achievement. He was nominated for the Oscar’s under the category of ‘Scientific and Technical Achievement, and won this award for his commendable design, engineering and continuous development of Sony Pictures Image works.
This award values and acknowledges the collaborative tool called ‘it views’ which Mr. Leon developed along with the two other team members. This software makes review of movie segments by the artists at various levels a lot easier during film-making.
“The award was not totally unexpected for me since we were confident about our product. It is a tool used only within Sony Image works. So, it feels good to be recognized by the Academy and the wider industry,” Mr. Leon said in an interview.
Unlike the regular academy awards for films, awardees in this category would receive just a certificate. The main Oscar Award ceremony will take place on February 28, 2016.
Born in Tamil Nadu's Tuticorin district, Mr Cottalango moved to the US to pursue his Masters in 1994.
