Jaspreet Bumrah, the 19- year old fast bowler from Gujarat with his unorthodox action, ability to bowl the Yorker, and with the improvement made through the addition of the ball that holds its line, is a new bowling sensation in the World Cricket.
In January 2016, the pace bowler was added to India's T-20 International squad for their series against Australia, as a replacement for the injured Bhuvaneshwar Kumar. Bumrah made his One Day International début at the SCG for India on 23 January 2016, taking two wickets for 40 off 10 overs. He then made impact on his T-20 debut with figures of 3-23. In T-20, he was included as the replacement of Mohammed Shami. In the second T-20, while chasing 188 runs James Faulkner was at the crease at the point where he could perform well and turn the match on the Australian side. Unfortunately, just after hitting a six he was bowled by a beautiful Yorker. In doing so, he has become an overnight sensation in the World Cricket.
India captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni too is highly impressed with young Gujarat pacer Jasprit Bumrah, who has given the Australian batsmen hard time during the three T-20 matches in Australia. “Jasprit Bumrah is the find of the T20 series”, says the Indian Captain MS Dhoni.
Jasprit Bumrah was part of the Gujarat team that won the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy in 2014-15. In the next season he was the leading wicket-taker in the domestic 50-over competition, the Vijay Hazare Trophy. He famously bowled Dhoni with a Yorker in the league stages and picked up five in the final. The youngster was quickly offered a lucrative Indian T-20 League contract, and Mumbai used him as a secret weapon in their very first game of the tournament. The subsequent year, he was again bought by Mumbai for a whopping 1.2 crores for the 2015 edition of the Indian T-20 League. Many also tout him as India’s death-over specialist. Having received all the right praises, the ordinary Indian Cricket lover just hope that he will be consistent and will go a long way, he certainly has the ability.
