A group of Indian- American has formed a committee called ‘Indian Americans for Trump 2016” that has registered on January 21 with the federal election commission as a political action committee (PAC), is aimed at garnering support for the wannabe Republican President Donald Trump.
“The officers of the Indian-Americans for Trump 2016 urge all Americans to join in the effort and support Donald Trump in his endeavour to make America great again by electing him the next President of the USA”, the PAC said in a statement.
A D Amar, a business professor with Seton Hall University has been elected as its President and New York based attorney Anand Ahuja is the Vice President. The Padma Shree awardee Sudhir Pankh is the chair of fundraising and advisory Committee of the ‘Indian Americans for Trump 2016’, and Devendra Makkar a business owner and community activist is appointed as the Treasurer.
The group has asserted that the community would benefit the most from his policies. Amar said, “This is only the first step. We are on the side of Trump for this election… at this moment Trump is the best for the US and for Indian Americans”, citing that Trump’s policies on illegal immigration and economy in particular, are the main reasons for Indian Americans to support him. “We believe that Trump would be the nominee of the Republican party and he would be the president on the United States,” he said.
