Police forces in the Indian cities of Delhi, Chandigarh, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Kolkata, Hyderabad and Lucknow have been put on high alert after intelligence agencies reported threat of terror attack.

The Intelligence Bureau (IB) has warned of possible terror attacks by the ISIS on Prime Minister Narendra Modi and French President François Hollande during The Indian Republic Day celebration on January 26 in the capital. Immediately following the alert by the security agency, all the vital installations around India Gate and Rashtrapati Bhavan were put on high alert.

The IB has warned that possible terror attacks will be similar to the ones in Paris and Jakarta, in which several civilians were killed. Top officers of Delhi police and other security agencies have been holding meetings to chalk out elaborate security plans to prevent such incidents. Amid several crackdowns on terrorists and suspects across the nation ahead of Republic Day, ISIS suspects have been arrested from small towns and cities like Kushinagar, Roorkee, etc.

The French President Hollande arrived on Sunday (23rd January), to begin his 3-day visit from Chandigarh. A thick security blanket has been thrown by the security agencies in the Chandigarh city where the two premiers will be at the India-France Business Summit, which will be attended by corporate honchos of the two nations. The French President will be accompanied by the PM Modi during his visit to Chandigarh’s famous Rock Garden, Capitol Complex, and the government museum and art gallery.  Hollande is be the fifth French leader to be a Chief Guest at India’s Republic Day celebrations — the maximum number from any country so far.
