Rajesh Vivek Upadhyay, 66, who has been part of some emblematic TV shows like Bharat Ki Khoj, Mahabharata and Ighori to name the few, passed away after suffering from the cardiac arrest in Hyderabad. Rajesh also appeared in films like Swades, Jodhaa Akbar, Bunty Aur Babli, Agneepath, Bandit Queen, Mujhse Shaadi Karogi, What's Your Raashee and Son Of Sardaar. But he was best known for his role of an astrologer Guran in Aamir Khan-starrer "Lagaan". Shyam Benegal first introduced him in his film Junoon, the critically acclaimed and award-winning 1978 Indian Hindi language film.
"He passed away today (Thursday) around 3 o'clock in the afternoon. I knew Rajesh for more than 40 years. It's awfully sad and a colossal loss to the industry", informed his close friend and colleague Vishnu Sharma.
Co-actor Aamir Khan, who led the Lagaan cricket team to victory, paid tribute to the actor on Facebook. “Yesterday we lost someone from the Lagaan family.... Rajesh Vivek. You will always remain in our hearts Baba. Your spirit, your energy and your love for humanity will always inspire us. Love”, posted Aamir. Popular actors Anupam Kher, Rishi Kapoor, etc. also paid their tributes to the Lagaan's Baba.
He was shooting in Hyderabad for a southern film where he suffered a massive heart attack. His last rites were performed in Mumbai on Friday (15th January, 2016).
