With the new season of Indian Premier League (IPL) on its heels, BCCI recently declared that the highest-paid cricketer in the IPL is Virat Kohli. Kohli will be paid whooping approximately Rs 15 crore by his franchise Royal Challengers Bangalore.
Importantly, he pips MS Dhoni, who has been ever since the most expensive IPL cricketer. Dhoni, who was picked up by the Sanjeev Goenka owned Pune team during the player draft will get approximately Rs 12.50 crore.
The West Indian batsman Chris Gayle and South African Faf du Plessis are among the top international players, who got fat paychecks. Mumbai Indians’ Harbhajan Singh (Rs 5.50 crore then vs 8 crore, now) and Ambati Rayudu (Rs 4 crore then vs Rs 6 crore, now) are two Indian players who have immensely gained.
As per the new rules, each of the IPL teams has to shell out at least Rs 40 crore and cannot spend more than Rs 66 crore. But for each player retained, specific amounts are deducted from the auction purse. The purse deduction amount was Rs 12.50 crore in the list put by BCCI on the website.
