Indian Premier Badminton League announced Bollywood superstar Akshay Kumar as the brand ambassador for the much-awaited badminton League beginning January 2, 2016.

The Indian Premier Badminton League (PBL) will start from 2nd January 2016 where six franchisees - Delhi Acers, Hyderabad Hunters, Bengaluru Top Guns, Chennai Smashers, Mumbai Rockets and Awadhe Warriors - will compete for the trophy.

The PBL aims to ride on the popularity that the sport has gained in the country over the years. The 2016 Premier Badminton League is the second edition of Premier Badminton League, which after its inaugural season in 2013, hit a roadblock and now is back after a hiatus of over two years.  The event was initially slated to be first held during September-October 2014. However, due to International schedules and internal wiles between Sporty Solutions and Badminton Authority of India (BAI), it was postponed by several times. 

The revamped PBL, with an objective of the tournament is to bring top Indian players along with the International players on the same platform will experiment with a new concept - Trump match, in which each of the competing teams will nominate one match in each tie as their Trump Card, this is expected to keep the interest till the end of a tie. 

Popular Indian cinema star, Akshay Kumar has been roped in as the PBL brand ambassador.  Akshay said, "For me, they are the true Brand Ambassadors to this beautiful and exciting game, I wish each one Good Luck and may the best team win".

For Awadhe Warriors, World No. 2 Saina Nehwal will feature and will be the star attraction. Saina Nehwal said, “This is the most awaited Badminton event of the season and a crucial League to start the year. Apart from improving our performances, I guess all the players will get a perfect opportunity to analyse our game, which will help us to set our goals for the whole season”.

The opening day of the league will witness the Awadhe Warriors taking on Mumbai Rockets in Mumbai.
