The first-ever ‘Uttar Pradesh Pravasi Diwas’ (UPPD), will take place in Agra from January 4 – 6, 2016, and will be chaired by the UP Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav who will hold deliberations with UP NRIs/PIOs aimed at engaging them on a range of topics.
The UP Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav will inaugurate the event in which over 150 NRIs/PIOs from 25 countries are expected to take part.
The State government officials involved with the event informed that the NRIs/PIOs will be encouraged to invest in the state. Efforts will also be made to attract the NRIs/PIOs attending the first-ever Uttar Pradesh Pravasi Diwas function, encouraging them to adopt villages of their choice during the programme. These guests will be handed over a list of villages from across the state for adoption and they will be asked to take responsibility for the village's development.
The ‘eminent personalities’ who are expected to participate include businessman and philanthropist Shiv Nadar, corporate leader Ratan Tata, hotelier Jyotsna Suri, president of the industry chamber FICCI, Vishal Sikka of Infosys, media baron Subhash Chandra of Zee Group, Juvencio Maeztu, CEO of Swedish giant IKEA, R.S. Sodhi, MD Amul Dairy, ITC's Yogi Deveshwar, Kishore Biyani, CEO Future Group, industrialist Adi Godrej, Ranbaxy's Malvinder Singh, cardiac surgeon Dr. Naresh Trehan, chairman of Medanta Medicity, filmmakers Muzaffar Ali and Sanjay Khan and a number of other national and international personalities.
It is also reported that there will be special focus on ‘Girmityas’ the indentured labourers who the British took as a workforce to Mauritius, Fiji, the Caribbean islands and some parts of South Africa.
The UP CM will also confer the UP Ratna Awards to those who have excelled in their field of activity abroad; about ten foreign guests are expected to be felicitated for their commendable contributions.
The Cultural programmes and sight-seeing have also been planned accordingly, a trip to Taj Mahal, Fatehpur Sikri and other tourist spots in the vicinity has been scheduled for the last day, January 6.
Importantly, Uttar Pradesh, is the India's most populous state, and is seeking to reach out to the 25 million strong Indian diaspora in a big way.
