All-rounder Yuvraj Singh and pacer Ashish Nehra have been selected to play in the upcoming T-20 series against Australia.

Yuvraj has not played for India since the 2014 World T-20 final, while Nehra's last international game was in 2011.

Yuvraj, The man of the series during the world cup win of 2011, was criticized for his performance in the 2014 world T-20 finals.

Sandip Patil, Chairman Selection committee, emphasized that he has been selected because of his current strong performance in the ongoing Vijay Hazare Trophy, where he is currently the third-highest run-getter with over 340 runs and at an average of above 85 runs.

According to the Chairman Selection committee, “Yuvraj Singh will always remain special, the selectors are very happy, and the captain is also very happy to have him back. We cannot promise any player whether he will be part of the next tour or the World Cup. We want every player to perform and every player has a chance to come back in the team".

Yuvraj Singh has expressed delight at the prospect of wearing the India jersey again during the three Twenty20 Internationals in Australia, but also felt there was a personal sense of disappointment for not making the cut for the ODIs. "A fresh start or a new beginning is the way I'd put it. I wouldn't say my India career is going to start all over again. It began 15 years ago…To be honest, I'm a bit disappointed that I am back only in the T-20 squad, not for the ODIs. However, there's happiness that I'm back after quite a while. The disappointment is personal and I hope I'm not misunderstood and that nothing at all is taken out of context", said Yuvraj. Importantly, Yuvraj last played for India in the final of the 2014 World T-20. He further said, “The time spent away from the team was extremely difficult, but the itch to regain his berth in the national team kept driving him”. However, he also admitted comebacks were never easy, especially due to the "compressed nature of T-20s".

The Indian pacer Ashish Nehra played only one match since his incredible 22 wickets in 16 matches enabled the Chennai Super King’s to reach the finals. Mr. Patil claimed that his experience will come in handy and he has been a consistent performer in the T-20 format. He further added that the selection of senior players such as Yuvraj and Nehra was to give the selection committee an opportunity to assess them ahead of the World T-20.

On hearing the news of selection of the duo, the master blaster, Sachin Tendulkar said, “I am happy that both are back… They deserve it and this is the result of their hard work… I wish them and the team all the success in Australia”.

India plays three T20's in Adelaide, Melbourne and Sydney before returning home for a three-match T-20 series against Sri Lanka. That will be followed by the Asia Cup T-20 in the build up to the World T-20 in March-April.
