An NRI businessman has been honoured with the Person of the Year award this year by a London newspaper for his outstanding contributions to community welfare.

KT Mohammed Rabeeh Rabeeulla, the Managing Director (MD) of the Jeddah-based Shifa Al Jazeera Medical Group, a leading private healthcare provider in the Middle East, has been chosen for the award by London-based Asian Lite newspaper.

Commending his contribution to the society, the jury commented, "Dr Rabeeullah's philanthropic activities in the remote areas of Thailand are highly commendable".

The NRI businessman has donated $100,000 to villagers in Thailand to buy tractors and farm equipment, thus making a significant contribution to change their life. Mr Rabeeullah is also allocating 5 per cent of his company's profit to provide insurance schemes and school buses for children in Kerala, thus setting an example for business leaders to help their communities.

The award will be presented to him in London on April 23, 2016.

Mr Rabeeulla has also previously won the 2013 Pravasi Bharatiya Award, the highest honour for the members of Indian Diaspora.
