The overall internet user base (wire-line and wire-less) in India stood at approximately 350 million by mid-2015, and is estimated to touch 503 million by 2017, says the report titled 'India on the go-mobile Internet Vision' by IAMAI.

Internet has brought the world on our doorsteps making world a smaller place. With the inclusion of web services on mobile the internet has reached common man.

According to an industry body the Internet and Mobile Association of India (IAMAI), India added 52 million users in the first six months of the present year taking the total user base to 352 million. The number of mobile Internet users has also grown to 213 million.

Led by a growth of over 27% annually in mobile users, the internet user base in the country is likely to reach 503 million by 2017, a report titled ‘India on the go-mobile Internet Vision’ by IAMAI also said.

Around 52 million internet users are added from India which is around 26% increase than the normal internet usage rate of India. Interestingly, 213 million (over 60%) users accessed the worldwide web through mobile devices. There were approximately 82 million 3G subscribers in India by the end of year 2014 and the number is projected to reach over 284 million by end of year 2017

The internet in India took more than a decade to move from 10 million to 100 million and three years from 100 to 200 million. However, it took only a year to move from 200 to 300 million users”, says the report.

The Internet and Mobile Association of India also states that the consolidated numbers affirm the fact that internet in India has now become inclusive, which augurs well for the industry and society at large. Clearly, making internet the mainstream in India and hopefully it will have a positive impact on the growth of the nation.
