Did the former Indian PM Late Rajiv Gandhi really justify the Anti-Sikh Riots? A sensational video tape was released in the month of November, 2015 by the Sikh activist and a senior lawyer might suggest the same.

HS Phoolka, a senior lawyer, political Leader and social activist who has been fighting for the 1984 anti-Sikh riot victims and BJP leader and Bihar MP, RP Singh recently released the video of the speech delivered by the then India’s Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi on 1984 at Boat Club on Indira Gandhi's birth anniversary where he had made the remarks that "Jab Bada ped girta hai, toh Dharti toh hilegi hi", (when a big tree falls, the earth shakes), an apparent reference to the 1984 anti-Sikh riots.

The lawyer HS Phoolka along with BJP secretary RP Singh demanded that Bharat Ratna given to the former Prime Minister should be taken back. "A Prime Minister, who justifies the killing of innocent citizens, definitely does not deserve Bharat Ratna. We therefore call upon the government to withdraw the Bharat Ratna conferred upon Rajiv Gandhi" said Phoolka.

In 2014, prior to the Lok Sabha elections Rajiv Gandhi's son and the congress present Vice President Rahul Gandhi has also irked the Sikh community while saying in a media interview, "Some Congressmen were probably involved in the anti-Sikh violence of 1984".

Both leaders said that it was a complicated process to retrieve the video of the speech as it was deleted from the records and archives of Doordarshan - the public service broadcaster in India. The two were also accompanied by another lawyer Tejinder Singh, whose family has suffered in the 1984 anti-Sikh riots.
