Kerala Governor P. Sathasivam has recently nominated a prominent Dubai-based businessman and industrialist, Dr .P.A. Ibrahim Haji to the four-member board of governors (BoG) of the newly renamed Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam Technological University in Kerela.
Kerala Governor P. Sathasivam, who is also the Chancellor of the newly renamed Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam Technological University, has nominated Dr. Ibrahim Haji to the four-member BoG panel, thus becoming the first Gulf-based NRI to be named as governor of a university the southern state.
Dr. Ibrahim, the co-chairman of Malabar Group of Industries, is employing over 7,000 people in India and the GCC countries across diverse business lines of textile, education, automobiles and the jewellery.
Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam Technological University has been set up for the promotion of technical education in the state. The newly renamed University entails all the colleges and academic institutions in the state offering technical education within itself. Starting from the academic year 2015-2016, all engineering colleges affiliated to different universities in Kerala are required to disaffiliate from the respective universities and affiliate them to Kerala Technological University. However, the courses which have already been enrolled will continue affiliated with the existing universities and only the new admissions will be affiliated to Dr. A. P. J. Abdul Kalam University.
