India is a country of various religions united by only one religion, i.e. cricket and Sachin is considered as the ultimate ‘GOD’ of the Indian cricket. No surprise as Indian batsman, Sachin holds an array of individual records and is undoubtedly the most followed cricketer in the world. But apparently, the British Airways (BA) was unaware of this feat.
On Friday the 13th November, Sachin took to twitter to express his anger over the customer service by British airways. In his tweets, Tendulkar expressed his deep anguish by stating that his family member's British Airways ticket did not get confirmed even though the airline had seats available. To make matters worse, the airline carried the luggage to the wrong destination. Sachin who has around 8.4 million twitter followers also took to the social site to express their anger towards BA.
"Angry Disappointed and Frustrated. #BAdserviceBA. Family member's Waitlisted ticket not confirmed despite seats being available.”
“And luggage being tagged by @British_Airways to wrong destination and don't care attitude! #NeveronBA,” he ranted. Sachin's second Tweet even added the hashtag #NeveronBA.
British airways response of asking Sachin’s credentials such as his full name, details about his family members, etc. irritated his fans all over the world. Within no time a legion of Tendulkar's passionate followers posted abusive messages, including jokes about the airline, on British Airways' Twitter page. The BBC also subsequently reported that British Airways was the top trend on Twitter India, with politicians also weighing into the row.
The British Arilines has subsequently apologized to the cricketing legend for the goof-up and confirmed that they have reunited the 42-year-old with his missing luggage.
This episode, though culminated now will certainly not go in the glorious pages of BA history, probably the apology might work. Certainly no other sport person can create such frenzy in his fans such as Sachin Tendulkar.
