Veteran actor Saeed Jaffrey passes away on November 15, at the age of 86.
Saeed Jaffrey's niece Shaheen Aggarwal posted the tragic news on her Facebook page: “Today, a generation of Jaffreys has passed away. Saeed Jaffrey has joined his brothers and sister and is rejoicing in the lap of his Heavenly Father, eternally. The entire Jaffrey Family bids you, "adieu", you beautiful, beautiful man See you in heaven!”
He was married to actress and travel writer Mehrunima Jaffrey, but the parted ways in 1966. He was later apologetic about his decision to divorce her. Jaffrey has three daughters Meera, Zia, and Sakina Jaffrey, who is also an actress.
The Indian-born British actor is best known for films like Ram Lakhan, Hero Hiralal, Chashme Buddoor, Gandhi, Shatranj Ke Khiladi, Dil and the television series, Tamas. He is also the first Asian to receive British and Canadian Academy Awards nominations, and also the first Indian to receive the Order of the British Empire (OBE) for his contributions to drama. He is the first Indian to take Shakespearean plays on a tour to the United States. He also appeared in the long-running British Soap Coronation Street for a short while. Since several years, he was not appearing in movies, partly because of old health and associated problems.
