In a red-letter day for the Indian-Canadians, a record four NRI cabinet ministers were inducted in the new Canada cabinet.
Justin Trudeau, 42, took the oath as Canada’s Prime Minister and
swore in his Cabinet, including 4 NRIs, at a grand public ceremony held in
Indian-origin men and one woman are part of the new cabinet that has 15 women
and 15 men ministers. Trudeau’s diverse cabinet that for the first time in the
country's history is equally balanced between women and men. The new
team marks both a generational change and reflects Canada's diversity.
Harjit Sajjan, 42, was appointed as the defence minister; he has served
in the warzones in Afghanistan and Bosnia, and has been a special adviser on
Afghanistan. He has also worked with the Vancouver Police Department for 11
Bains, 38, was given the portfolio of innovation, science and economic
development. He has been a visiting professor at Ryerson University in Toronto.
Amarjeet Sohi, 51, got infrastructure department. Interestingly
Sohi, a former bus driver in India, was jailed for two years during late 1980s.
Bardish Chagger, is the new Minister of Small Business and
himself is the second youngest prime minister of Canada.
