In order to provide transportation to dignitaries during the third India-Africa Forum Summit (IAFS) Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) is providing around 55 Camry hybrid green cars.
This move is said to have come right after Mercedes-benz rolled out their 55 top of the range E 250 CDI luxury sedans which are being used by the visiting foreign dignitaries of ministries including the head of states, presidents, prime ministers and top diplomats.
According to N Raja, senior vice-president and director, sales and marketing, Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM), "Last month, during his visit to India, our chairman, Takeshi Uchiyamada, had met Prime Minister Narendra Modi. This meeting initiated our support to the 3rd India African Summit and we are glad to take this association forward".
Raja also said that the Camry Hybrid cars are the first such to be locally manufactured. India is oriented towards pollution control and its environment-friendly technology is in sync with this vision of that country.
The India–Africa Forum Summit (IAFS) is the official platform for the African-Indian relations. IAFS is held once in every three years. It was first held from April 4 to April 8, 2008 in New Delhi, India. This year the summit is happening between October 26 and 29 in New Delhi, where heads of the state and the government from most of the continent's 54 countries are attending the summit.
