38% of the total 1.3 Million population in Trinidad & Tobago is comprised of Indians, which makes the franchise owners believe in Shah Rukh's star powers to attract huge audience.

It has been reported that Bollywood heartthrob and Kolkata Knight Rider co-owner, Shahrukh Khan has purchased the Trinidad & Tobago franchise in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL). The megastar’s company Red Chillies Entertainment Pvt Ltd, which is co-owned by Bollywood actress Juhi Chawla and her husband Jay Mehta has invested in the T&T franchise.

With the purchase of this franchise, Shah Rukh has joined Hollywood stars Mark Wahlberg and Gerard Butler in the CPL owners’ club. He has also become the first IPL owner to own a sports team in an overseas league.

“The passion for franchise cricket in the Caribbean is evident with the success of CPL and we hope to bring all the best practices of KKR to the T&T franchise,” he told Times Of India.

He also said that it is just a step in their global expansion vision. “This is in line with our vision to expand globally. We are thrilled to become part of the cricketing tradition of Trinidad & Tobago.”

KKR's chief executive Venky Mysore, who runs Khan's sports business, said, "KKR has been fortunate to be recognised as one of the most professionally managed franchises in IPL. That experience has encouraged us to expand globally. The idea is to replicate our success in CPL, keeping the growing interest in this (T20) format in mind."
