Uttar Pradesh or UP, India’s largest state and home to roughly a sixth of the country’s population, is making a massive push to involve people of UP origin living all across the world in the state’s development through its NRI Department. In this process, UP Government has decided to organise “UP NRI” day on January 4 and 5th next year in Agra, with the aim of inviting the non-resident Indians hailing from UP and to encourage them to make investments in the state. Through this event government will also try to showcase the state’s bonding with the NRIs.
Madhukar Jaitley, advisor to the NRI department stated that they are inviting the NRIs who are still attached through their roots to invest in Uttar Pradesh so that the state can be developed particularly in the field of health, education and infrastructure. “We invite the NRIs who have their roots in Uttar Pradesh to invest in the state. We wish to take their help in development of the state particularly in the health, education and infrastructure sectors,” said Madhukar Jaitley. Mr. Jaitely also added that NRIs are deeply attached to the country as well as with their native states, and several of them want to be a part of their state development by contributing in various development schemes.
According to Mr. Jaitley, the NRI department addresses any issues or problems those from the state living abroad may face. Among other things, it also issues an “NRI card” certifying that the holder is from Uttar Pradesh, which would allow seamless communications with state officials. NRIs can also share their grievances as well as suggest their plans for the development of their native villages.
Regarding the registration, each NRI would be allotted special identity cards and their details would be provided in the NRI website. The URL for the dedicated portal is www.upnri.com
The “UP NRI” Day will be presided by the UP chief minister, Akhilesh Yadav, along with a team of senior state government officials. Approximately 500 delegates from abroad are expected to participate in the event which will be organized in JP Palace Agra. The UP NRI Diwas will be followed by the Indian government’s Pravasi Bharatiya Diwas to be held in New Delhi from January 7-9, 2016.
