Recently, an Indian origin British diplomat has been appointed as UK's ambassador to Qatar. On October first week, the government website of UK has released the news that Ajay Sharma who is presently the charge d'affaires to Iran is going to be the new British ambassador in Qatar and will join the office in November.
The British Diplomat Ajay Sharma had been the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO), Head of Iran department and non-resident charge d'affaires to Iran. He is succeeding Nicholas Hopton who is all due for another post.
Earlier, in November 2011, the British embassy in Iran was closed after the activists had stormed and ransacked the CFO office, when Britain posed sanctions on Iran. Early in August 2015 only, the embassy was reopened.
Mr. Ajay Sharma has also served in various posts and designations for different departments in countries such as France, Turkey and Russia.
