India, South Africa to play Gandhi-Mandela series

The world calls them ‘CHOKER’ and yes they have choked in all the World Cups played till now, and also in other crucial international tournaments. On lighter note, the theme lines of the legendary artist Raj Kapoor’s movie would have fit well to the South African Cricket team with very minimal alteration to the original song - “Kehta Hain CHOKER, Saara Zamaana Aadhi Haqeeqat Aadha Fasaana”.

But nevertheless, South Africa has always been a Superb Team to watch, especially in any bilateral series, be it at home or away. These South African, also popularly known as the ‘Protease’ are one of very few sides who adjust brilliantly to the Asian territory and over the years, they're maintaining a healthy report card too. For the cricketing fraternity and millions of cricket lovers all across the world, the South African cricket team has always been a treat to watch.

This October and November 2015, South Africa tour India for no less than 72 days, scheduled to play series of 4 test matches, 5 one day Internationals and 3 T20s along the length and breaths of the giant nation.

If we see on papers, South African team would be as good as Indian team in T-20’s and ODIs. However, with the conditions favoring Indian team strength that is spinners in the Indian subcontinent and the long tour, it would be a very tough task for the South African team to compete with the Indian cricket team, especially in the Test match competition. However, we still cannot underestimate the South African cricket might with the likes of AB De Villiers, Hashim Amla, Dale Steyn and Morne Morkel. Also, we cannot ignore the leg spinner Imran Tahir, who could create a lot of problems for the Indian Batsmen.

All the T20s are night games, to start at 7pm while ODIs will be day-night, starting at 1.30pm local time except for first ODI at Kanpur which will be a day match, starting from 9am IST. All 4 Test matches will begin 9.30am IST.

If we analyze how the tournament has gone up till now, the T20 series competition was done and dusted for Indian team in Cuttack, Orissa after India’s second consecutive defeat as South Africa sent the hosts packing for their second lowest total of 92, in a match which would also be remembered for the unruly crowd behavior, interrupting the match twice.

The biggest positive happened till now for India is Ravichandran Ashwin, who has continuously troubled the South African batting line-up, and bowled out the danger man, AB de Villiers, on both the occasions in this series. From the South African side, till now the raw pace and aggression of the new comer Kagiso Rabada and spinner Tahir has been the highlight in the bilateral series. Now when this article goes for publication, both the team awaits for the last T20 encounter of the series, to be played in Kolkata at edens on 8th October.
