NITI Aayog Member Dr. Vinod Paul became first indian to be awarded the prestigious Ihsandoramac Family Health Foundation Prize by World Health Organisation.

On 27th January, 2018 the World Health Organisation (WHO) Board declared the name of the prestigious Ihsan Do?ramac? Family Health Foundation Prize. It was none other than Dr. Vinod Paul, who is a member of NITI Aayog. He is the first Indian recipient of this global honour.

Dr. Paul’s selection was a unanimous decision from six other shortlisted candidates from Algeria, China, Malaysia, and Mexico, Russian Federation, and Uzbekistan. The WHO Board acknowledged Dr. Paul as an internationally renowned researcher, clinician, educator, and public health advocate in family health, with a special focus on new-born health. They also recognized his distinguished contributions towards improvement of health and well-being of families, especially in developing countries.

Dr Paul is widely known in public health circles in India. He played a key role in formulating national child health guidelines and programmes in the country. Before joining as Member, NITI Aayog, Dr. Paul was head of the Department of Paediatrics at AIIMS, New Delhi.

The award will be presented to Dr. Paul formally at the World Health Assembly to be held in Geneva, Switzerland in May 2018.
