The newly appointed Congress president Rahul Gandhi recently visited Bahrain on January 8th, 2018. Prior to his visit, he was in all praises for the non-resident Indian (NRIs). He was a two-day visit to Bahrain, his first foreign trip after becoming the Congress chief. On January 7th, he tweeted lauding the non-resident Indians as the brand ambassador of India across the globe. He further attributed them to being representatives of India’s ‘soft power’ to the world. It was his first trip abroad after taking over Congress as president.
Mr. Gandhi addressed the valedictory session as the chief guest of a function organised by Global Organisation of People of India Origin (GOPIO) in Bahrain. The conclave was attended by NRIs from 69 countries. At the gathering, Mr. Gandhi said, "Together, we must steer India back to its original strengths, we need to make India the centerpiece of ahimsa and compassion". He also promised creating ‘new and shining' Congress, says forces of hatred must be curtailed. "I am here to tell you what you mean to your country, you are important, to tell you that there is a serious problem at home, and to tell you are part of the solution," Rahul said.
Mr Gandhi also held an interactive session with business leaders of Indian-origin people. He also met the Bahrain Prime Minister Khalifa Bin Salman Al Khalifa and other local leaders.
