The Indian-American University of Houston president and Chancellor, Ms. Renu Khator has been honored with the 'Excellence in Leadership Award' by the United States Hispanic Chamber of Commerce (USHCC). The award acknowledges an extraordinary female for her contributions in the world of business, education, philanthropy, or government. Ms. Khator is the first woman to lead the University of Houston (UH) System and also the first Indian immigrant to lead a major research university in the United States.
“President Khator has not only broken the glass ceiling, but her commitment to education has served as an inspiration for Americans, women, and immigrants of all backgrounds", said USHCC President and CEO Javier Palomarez.
Ms. Khator, while accepting the award said, "I consider it a big honour to stand on the national stage, represent the University of Houston and accept this award on behalf of all the great work done by all of us together". Ms. Renu Khator hails from a small town Farrukhabad, in Uttar Pradesh, India.
