Hindi film ‘Newton’ has won the Jury Prize for Best Film at the Hong Kong International Film Festival.

Newton is a political comedy film directed by Amit V Masurkar. The story revolves around a clerk on election duty in a conflict-ridden region of Chhattisgarh. The lead actor, Rajkummar Rao plays Newton, a rookie clerk on election duty in a conflict-ridden jungle of Chhattisgarh, who tries his best to conduct free and fair voting despite the apathy of security forces and the looming fear of an attack by Maoist rebels. The movie also features Anjali Patil, Pankaj Tripathi and Raghubir Yadav.

The film also went to 16th Annual Tribeca Film Festival. Earlier, the film had its world premiere at Berlinale and got its first global recognition by winning the Art Cinema award for the Forum section.

Hong Kong International Film Festival (HKIFF) is Asia’s oldest international film festival. Every year, it introduces Hong Kong, Chinese, Asian cinema and filmmakers to the world. It screens over 250 titles from around 60 countries at each edition of the festival.
