In the recently held PBD summit - Indian Chief ministers were seen turning into CEOs, to woo NRIs to invest in their states.

It was interesting to note that several Chief Ministers of different Indian states donned the role of chief executive officers (CEOs) at Pravasi Bharatiya Divas (PBD), wooing NRIs to invest in their respective states. Recently, the 14th edition of the three-day Pravasi Bharatiya Divas (PBD) was organized in Bengaluru, Karnataka from 7-9 January 2017.

Highlighting the “advantages” the host of PBD Karnataka has, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said the state has a unique and powerful combination of engaged citizens, hi-technology and outstanding talent supported by well-oiled governance machinery. They offered NRIs sops and relaxation in norms to do business with ease.

Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Raman Singh tried to sell hard the advantage of investing in his new state. He said his state is mineral rich and has surplus power. He added that the new capital coming up in the state is the finest in the world. In his brief address, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said the 50% of the FDI India received recently had come to Maharashtra, which shows how investment-friendly his state is. He informed the audience about the investment made by Maharashtra to build infrastructure.

Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal said his state has a vibrant industrial base with 70 industrial infrastructure hubs including growth centers, export processing industrial parks, food parks, bamboo park, plastic park, integrated industrial infrastructure centre, industrial estates, biotech park and IT park. He told the gathering about the various initiatives taken by his government to create an atmosphere conducive for investment. Even the Puducherry Chief Minister V Narayanasamy also  said that the advantage the union territory has is its size, which makes it easy for the government to concentrate on administration and reach out to the people in no time.  

Apart from NRI marketing at the PBD, the states are also individually celebrating the NRI summits, woo state pravasis.

Pravasi Haryana Divas - Government of Haryana celebrated its Golden Jubilee year starting from November 1, 2016. As part of the celebrations, Government of Haryana recently organized the Pravasi Haryana Divas (PHD) on 11th January 2017 at Gurugram.

UP NRI Diwas’ -  In continuation of its efforts to attract more offshore Indians to invest in Uttar Pradesh and recognize and honour the Diaspora from Uttar Pradesh, the first edition of Uttar Pradesh NRI day was held in Agra on 4-6 January 2016.  

Vibrant Gujarat Summit - Vibrant Gujarat is the name given to a biennial investors' summit held by the government of Gujarat. The central focus of the 8th edition of the Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit was “Sustainable Economic and Social Development”. The Summit brought together Heads of States and Governments, Ministers, Leaders of the Corporate World, Senior Policy Makers, Heads of International Institutions and Academia from around the world to further the cause of development and promote cooperation.
