The Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa is reportedly recovering and is progressing gradually, said the Director, Medical services of Apollo Hospital. She has been in hospital since 22 September, and there has been a veil of secrecy over the extent of her illness, which has led to tension among her supporters in the state. Ms. Jayalalitha has reportedly been kept under close observation of a specialist from London, besides three-member team of doctors from AIIMS, Delhi have examining CM.
Meanwhile, the ailing chief minister of Tamil Nadu has handed over all her responsibilities to her deputy, the Finance Minister OP Panneerselvam, who has stood in for her in the past, but she will remain chief minister. All Jayalalitha’s portfolios were transferred to according to Ms Jayalalithaa’s “express wishes”. It is being seen as another attempt to quell fears about her health. O Panneerselvam had chaired Tamil Nadu’s first cabinet meeting on Wednesday with a framed portrait of the CM on his desk.
There are concerns that her supporters could resort to violence and acts of self harm in the event of any bad news.
