An Abu Dhabi-based NRI doctor who thinks that for India, becoming 'Swachh Bharat,' and becoming a bigger economic player on the world stage go hand in hand has donated Rs 1 crore.
Dr Shamsheer Vayalil, who in 2008, founded VPS Healthcare, a group of hospitals, medical centres and pharmaceutical businesses in the UAE, told the India Development Foundation of Overseas Indians (IDF-OI), a non-profit Government trust chaired by the EMA Mrs Swaraj, that invokes and invites NRIs PIOs and OCI card holders to donate to development projects, “If India needs to emerge a strong nation globally, its workforce should be healthy. This can happen only when the population is healthy and disease-free. It is my strong conviction that Swachh Bharat will accelerate the process of creating healthy citizens". Dr. Shamsheer Vayalil, also said "With high productivity and less absenteeism, soon India will be in a trajectory of accelerated economic development".
The IDF-OI currently accepts donations to projects associated with the Swachh Bharat Mission and the Clean Ganga Mission, two of the Modi administration's flagship initiatives. In addition, it also welcomes contributions to several state government projects in areas such as infrastructure, skill development, and healthcare.
Accepting the contribution, in a video message to overseas Indians Minister Swaraj said, “The money is not just a donation, it is a way to connect to your roots and a way to repay your debt to your motherland, and express your emotional attachment to your country”.
