A UK based NRI, Balddev Singh Deol, 62, who was on suspicion of kidnapping and murdering his friend and business partner, Ranjit Singh Power, 54, in Punjab, has been traced to his home in Britain. He was last traced at his home in Wolverhampton, in the West Midlands region of England. However, the accused could not be arrested as the extradition papers are yet to be processed by Indian authorities.
The accused has an Interpol warrant against him on charges of kidnapping, murder and disappearance of evidence of the offense committed.
The victim, Ranjit Singh Power, was a hotelier from Wolverhampton who went missing on a visit to India in 2015. While Ranjit’s body has not been recovered his disappearance is being treated as murder. Infact, his disappearance was being assumed as murder by Deol due to some business dealings in India and the UK.
Indian police believe Power’s murder may have been rooted in his business dealing in India and the UK. The investigation is going on and a suspected Indian taxi driver Sukhdev Singh remains in custody after police said he had confessed to the killing but police in India want to arrest Deol for questioning on his role in the murder.
The UK Foreign Office also said it is providing support to the Power family.
