Australia is preparing to host a 'Festival of India' in September 2016, in line with its plan to ramp up its engagements with India.
According to Ms. Harinder Sidhu, Australia's new high commissioner to India, “There has been a three-fold rise in Indian born Australians in the last 10 years with Australia now home of some half a million Indian immigrants. There are some 53,000 students from India and about 2.33 lakh visas were issued to Indian visitors to Australia last year”. She also added that bilateral relations have received a tremendous boost since the meeting of the prime ministers of India and Australia in 2014. Even in 2015, as a symbol of the growing closeness between the two countries, the iconic Sydney Opera House was lit up during Diwali celebrations.
The bilateral trade between the two nations is expanding to education and training services, medical and healthcare technology, research collaboration in healthcare and eye care services and accountancy and other services.
