A Dubai-based NRI businessman, Dr B R Shetty of NMC Group of Companies has decided to invest Rs. 450 crore for developing the world famous Jog Falls, in Karnataka. This is a site, where the local river Sharavathi takes a plunge from a height of 810 feet, into an all-season tourist spot.
Dr B R Shetty is also the owner of a real estate in the Burj Khalifa tower, Dubai.
As per the deal, he will develop Rs.200 crore, a 400-bed, government hospital which will be spread in over two acres in Udupi region. The NRI businessman also planned to create superlative facilities by setting up a water fantasy park, resort and a five-star hotel. The adjoining region, the Jog Falls in the nearby Shimoga region will also be upgraded into a popular tourist destination.
Moreover, the land nearby to the government community health centre at Mudanidamburu village in Udupi district will be given on contract for 30 years for setting up a super-specialty hospital.
The project is consulted with the cabinet and Law Minister T B Jayachandra and was approved by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. The state cabinet headed by the Chief Minister Siddaramaiah approved the two projects and okayed an MoU after consulting the law, finance, and health departments. In a tweet the CM said apart from making Jog a perennial waterfall they plan to create world-class facilities including a water fantasy park, resort and 5-star hotel.
