The Government of India has decided to erect a National War Memorial in the vicinity of the India Gate, New Delhi, to honor its Armed Forces and memorialize armed forces members killed in war after Independence in 1947. Importantly, over 22,500 soldiers have laid down their lives post-Independence in various wars. The Indian government has approved an Rs 500- crore project for building a National War Memorial.
The selected site of the memorial is located in the heart of New Delhi, within the C-Hexagon that lies in the close vicinity of India Gate.
The proposed National War Museum will combine architectural aesthetics and public sentiment. It will serve as a place for people to show their respect for soldiers, for their extraordinary efforts, also portraying significant events of India’s wars and related objects of historical importance for education and promoting patriotism.
The Indian Government is also expected to issue a global tender for the construction of the National War memorial.
