The Indian Union Cabinet has been apprised of the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between India and South Africa to establish cooperation in Grassroots Innovation. The MoU was signed on July 07, 2016 in pursuance to the Inter-Government Agreement between two countries for cooperation in Science & Technology at Pretoria, South Africa.
Under this MoU, both countries will jointly organise various programmes such as forums, workshops, seminars and training on matters related to innovation. They will also share open source technologies with each other and jointly develop projects to assist innovators in converting their ideas into commercially viable innovations. The MoU also provides a mechanism and help in creating an ecosystem that will promote inclusive innovation and entrepreneurship at the grassroots level in both countries. It also provides particular focus on Indigenous knowledge systems and Agriculture Biotechnology.
Importantly, the both countries have agreed to mutually cooperate and work closely with each other in multilateral forum such as BRICS, IBSA, G20 and BASIC. It is expected that an ecosystem that promotes inclusive innovation and entrepreneurship at the grassroot level in both countries will be created as a result of the MoU. This MoU is a significant step towards the mutual cooperation agreement.
