The Computer software engineer Amandeep Singh Chandi who recently returned from Canada was abducted in Chandigarh. The city police have reportedly solved this kidnapping case of an NRI within 24 hours of the incident.

Amandeep Singh Chandi, a computer software engineer, returned from Canada recently was abducted by several persons from the Ranjit Avenue area, in Chandigarh. During late evening at his day of abduction, he was travelling in a white colour Pajero, an SUV.

City police claim to have solved the kidnapping case within 24 hours, and in a brief statement said five persons have been held and two accomplices are still at large.  The police have registered a case under Sections 364 and 34 of the IPC at the Civil Lines police station. The police authorities claimed five persons were held in this connection. The arrested were identified as Manmohan Singh, Jasminder Singh, Manjit Singh, Paramjit Singh and Varun Sareen. The accused were brought on a police remand for further interrogation.Two of their accomplices who are yet to be arrested, include Pawan Kumar and Dharamvir.


The city police is expecting this kidnapping was conducted for extortion. Meanwhile the city police officials have refused to divulge further details about the case, stating that it could hamper the ongoing investigations.
