Indian female wrestler became the obvious choice as India's only other medallist PV Sindhu, who bagged silver medal in women's singles badminton, left early for Hyderabad, India.

Indian wrestler Sakshi Malik who made the country proud by winning a bronze medal was the Indian flag bearer at the closing ceremony of the Rio Olympics. Sakshi has become the first Indian woman wrestler to clinch a medal for her country.

Malik was chosen to represent India at the closing ceremony as PV Sindhu, who won silver in badminton, left Rio de Janeiro for Hyderabad earlier. Both the women showed their prowess and determination to add two medals to the Indian count of zero in the games.

India’s contingent Chef de mission Rakesh Gupta said, “Sakshi opened the medal account for India in Rio and Sindhu added to it. These young ladies have been an inspiration for all women in India and I am sure many more will follow them".

The glittering closing ceremony was held on Sunday eve (21st August, 2016), where the Olympic flame was handed over to Japan which will host the next Olympics. The governor of Tokyo formally accepted the Olympic flag, marking the end of the 2016 games. The three hour long ceremony showcases Brazilian culture and spectacular fireworks.

As the Closing Ceremony drew to a close, Japan’s Prime Minister emerged after the Olympics preview package of the country which featured Doremon (the blue robot cat) and Mario, with the Japanese PM himself emerging dressed as Mario in the ceremony. This two-minute teaser during Rio's Olympic closing ceremony sets the stage for Tokyo, Japan.
