Dr Mahesh Patwardhan, an Indian-origin 53-year gynecologist, has been sent to eight years in prison in the UK for sexual assault against his female patients.
The prison term was decided by Judge Alice Robinson at Woolwich Crown Court for atleast four counts of sexual assault between July 31, 2008 and September 24, 2012.
Dr Mahesh was also found guilty of two counts of fraud associated with wrongly billing private medical insurers for work he had not done.
The doctor had already been removed by the UK's General Medical Council (GMC) in October 2014. This prompted more victims to come forward. Several of the complainants have narrated the court about their disastrous experience with the accused doctor. In one of the incident, the doctor had performed a breast exam of a victim patient despite of the patient informing him she had a mammogram done already.
Meanwhile, the accused had refuted all charges of sexual assault and the counts of fraud.
