Mrs. Sushma Swaraj, external affairs minister of India (EAM), recently stated that the government has enabled Non-Resident Indians (NRIs) and Persons of Indian Origion (PIOs) to send monetary contributions online for government's flagship schemes such as 'Swachch Bharat' and Clean Ganga among other social sector projects.
Swaraj revealed while leading a meeting of the India Development Foundation of Overseas Indians (IDF-OI), a not-for-profit trust established by government of India to support the country's social development efforts.
Mrs. Swaraj introduced IDF-OI's Online Payment Gateway at the Meeting and announced that she is happy to inform NRIs/PIOs can use their credit/debit cards to make contributions online to IDF-OI. Vikas Swarup, the spokesperson of external affairs ministry, stated that the move is aimed at fulfilling the wish of the Indian diaspora settled abroad to give back to India. "Facilitating diaspora's desire to give back to India. EAM chairs 6th Board Meeting of IDF-OI in Delhi @GivingtoIndia," said Mr. Swarup.
During the meet, the Board Members assessed ways to improve Diaspora engagement with India's social sector. Currently, IDF-OI is promoting Government of India's flagship programmes, such as the Swachh Bharat and National Mission for Clean Ganga.
India Development Foundation of Overseas Indians (IDF-OI) is a not-for-profit trust registered by the Government of India, to provide a credible window for Overseas Indian Philanthropy in India’s Social Development. The minimum contribution accepted to IDF-OI Pool Fund is 100 USD (INR 6,500 Approx.) The trust is also in the process of partnering with the state governments to identify and select projects for improving overseas Indians' engagement.
