An Indian NRI living in Australia committed suicide as his bid to gain permanent residency was rejected.

Deepak, 36, had immigrated as an international student in 2008 to study community welfare courses, but changes in the Skilled Occupations List during his course duration made him ineligible for permanent residency.

Later on, Singh got married to an Australian woman and was currently living on a temporary visa in Australia. The deceased victim had applied for permanent residency (PR) on the basis of being married to an Australian citizen.

According to a local Australian community member Jasvinder Sidhu who knew him, the victim was under acute stress about being deported to India and his work rights were also withdrawn.
