A Gulf NRI, who owns the VPS Healthcare hospital chain, has now acquired Delhi-based Rockland Hospitals for approximately Rs. 1,500 crore.

Shamsheer Vayalil, 39, has acquired Delhi-based Rockland Hospitals, with a deal worth around Rs 1,500 crore. VPS is buying the entire stake of Rockland founder Rajesh Srivastava, who passed away in January this year. As part of the deal, Gulf NRI will acquire the entire stake of Rockland and International Finance Corporation, will hold a minority stake. 

VPS Healthcare will acquire a 100% stake in Rockland network in the National Capital Region (NCR). This will own 16 high-end hospitals and over 100 primary care medical centres. The major hospitals include the Qutub, the Dwarka and Manesar. Rockland also has a plot at Noida where Shamsheer will now develop a Greenfield project. He also plans to develop the Manesar Hospital into a referral centre for oncology. The purchase deal was reportedly signed in June, 2016.

The Gulf NRI, Shamsheer Vayalil, is an Indian-origin doctor, entrepreneur, philanthropist and businessman. This billionaire radiologist, is a son-in-law of NRI tycoon M AYusuffali. The, West Asia-based hospital, chain, VPS Healthcare, headquarters in Abu Dhabi, is owned by him.  His network has 16 hospitals, 112 medical centres and clinics, and 28 pharmacies in the GCC countries, his largest hospital is in Abu Dhabi, and is also the largest private tertiary care provider in Abu Dhabi.

Shamsheer Vayalilwas had received several international accolades including the global humanitarian award at United Nations headquarters in New York. He is also the youngest person to receive Pravasi Bharatiya Samman award in 2014. He is listed as one of 100 most powerful Indians in gulf and was also featured in Forbes magazine.
