Rajasthan has become the first state in the country to introduce minimum wages for part time workers. The notification is hailed as a boon for the workers in the un-organized sector.
In this regard, the state Labour Department has recently issued a notification favouring the part time workers. As per the recent notification, it is now mandatory for employer to pay 50% of the prescribed a day minimum wage to a person who works for less than four hours in a day. With this, part time workers in the state now come under the Minimum Wages Act 1948. The Minimum Wages Act 1948 is an Act of Parliament concerning Indian labour law that sets the minimum wages that must be paid to both skilled and unskilled workers.
Besides, in another decision, deemed favouable to the employers across the state, the state government has also decided to increase the minimum wages in all categories of scheduled employments by Rs. 104 per month.
