Four Indian-Americans, including Google CEO Sunder Pichai and McKinsey's Chairman of the Americas Vikram Malhotra, are among the 42 eminent professionals honoured with a prestigious US immigrants' award – “Great Immigrants: The Pride of America”. They have been acknowledged for their exceptional contributions and inspiring professional accomplishments in strengthening the US as a country and its democratic society.
The other two Indian-Americans include Hari Sreenivasan, anchor and senior correspondent of PBS News Hour; and Bharati Mukherjee, the National Book Critics Circle Award winning author.
The 2016 annual award of the Carnegie Corporation was presented at an event in New York on June 30.
The president of Carnegie Corporation of New York, Vartan Gregorian praised the accomplished American immigrants who went to the US for opportunity education, asylum, security, or reunification with families and relatives. "These accomplished Americans are immigrants like our forefathers, who founded this nation of nations”, said Vartan Gregorian, president of Carnegie Corporation of New York and he also said they like all Americans share a common faith in the country.
Since 2006, the philanthropic foundation has been annually recognizing the contributions of naturalized citizens with this initiative. For 2016, the corporation named 42 honorees, who represented 30 different countries of origin.
