Malkit Chaukria, a 31-year-old Indian-origin van driver’s reckless behavior and sleeping while driving killed a young man in UK. He has been sentenced for two years and four months by the UK Court.
He killed his work colleague, 29-year-old Aaron Ryan at Gloucester Crown Court in south-west England on 22nd June. He has also been banned from driving for four years and two months during sentencing and criticized his transport firm employer for sending the driver out for such long hours that he fell asleep at the wheel.
The unfortunate death of Mr. Ryan happened instantly, on which the judge said that,"You did not set out to kill Mr Ryan in any way - he was your friend. But his death was utterly avoidable". During November 2014, Chaukria was regularly starting work at 2.30 am, driving his Mercedes Sprinter van between 300 and 500 miles to deliver white goods for the Co-op in the West Country region of England, where he met with an accident, smashing into a broken down 44-tonne lorry, which resulted in the unintentional killing of the victim.
