An Indian-origin diplomat, Kamala Shirin Lakhdhir was recently nominated by the US President Obama as an ambassador to Malaysia.

The US President Barack Obama has nominated an Indian-origin diplomat Kamala Shirin Lakhdhir as the next US ambassador to Malaysia.   

Ms. Shirin had earlier served as Executive Assistant to the Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs from 2011 to 2015.   Earlier she had also served as the US Consul General in Belfast, Northern Ireland, United Kingdom from 2009 to 2011 and had worked in the Bureau of East Asian and Pacific Affairs as the Director of the Office of Maritime Southeast Asia.  She has undergone studies from Harvard college and also did MS from national war college. Later joined Foreign Service and also served as political officer in Beijing in 1991.

Her nomination is yet to be confirmed by the Senate. She would replace Joseph Y Yun as the next US ambassador to Malaysia.
